WHEN SHOULD YOU REPLACE YOUR INDUSTRIAL PRESS ON TIRES?

For optimum performance press on industrial rubber tires should be replaced when approximately 30% of the available rubber tread is used.

Use of the tire beyond the 30% design wear factor results in significant operational and safety deficiencies in the following categories:

  • Inadequate shock absorption for equipment, load, and operator
  • Inadequate traction adversely affecting stopping distance
  • Inadequate mast & differential under clearance dimension
  • Truck capacity rating may be adversely affected

To determine when to change the tire use the following formula:

OD = Original outside diameter of tire
ID = Inside diameter of tire
X = Maximum recommended wear
Y = OD at which tire should be changed

Formula to obtain wear:

X = [(OD - ID) / 2] x .30
Y = OD - X

Example: 21 x 8 x 15 Drive Tire

X = [(21 - 15) / 2] x .30 = .90
Y = 21 - .90 = 20.10

Conclusion - Tire should be changed when the OD is reduced to 20.10"
